How to Chop a Yellow Onion

The goal is to make horizontal and vertical cuts on the onion in a grid pattern to make it easier and more uniform to chop

Slice off the end of the onion

With the cut end of the onion down, slice the onion in half

Remove outer skin from onion

With the onion laying cut side down on the cutting board, make a horizontal slice about ½ inch thick from the bottom of the onion and almost all the way through to the back of the onion

Make another horizontal slice about ½ inch above the first one and almost all the way to the back of the onion

Next make vertical ½ inch cuts all the way through to the cutting board but not all the way through to back of the of the onion

Make ½ inch cuts all the way through the onion, creating a uniform dice
